LIONS & TIGERS & BEARS, OH MY! Retrogrades & eclipses & conjunctions, oh my! June is a crazy busy month that stands out, even in a string of intense months in an historical year. The January reality-changing Saturn-Pluto conjunction is still working its magic by disintegrating even more boundaries around us. The April Jupiter-Pluto conjunction returns to force another deep dive as retrograde Jupiter and Pluto meet for a second time on June 29. Cerebral Mercury turns retrograde in nurturing Cancer on June 17, followed by Neptune on June 22, making six planets that impede our overall progress into the future. However, Venus ends her 43-day period of back-stepping on June 24, reminding us that all cosmic tides ebb and flow.

As if things are not strange enough, we have officially entered eclipse season, adding another level of unpredictability into the mix. The Sagittarius Full Moon on June 5 is a Lunar Eclipse that pits our search for truth against a growing jungle of facts and fantasies. Misdirected anger can turn the world upside down since this eclipse is square warrior Mars. However, appropriate expression of controlled rebellion can be a step forward on the road to a better future. The Cancer New Moon on June 20-21 is a Solar Eclipse, occurring on the summer solstice (winter for those down under) — another indicator of the continuing uncertainty that has temporarily hijacked our lives. There appears to be no quick fix for our global predicament since this eclipse forms an irritating quincunx with Saturn at the very same degree of the upcoming Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in December. Even the normal forward thrust we receive from Mars entering his home sign of Aries on June 27 is subdued by constrictive Saturn. This restraint sets the stage for the Mars retrograde period that keeps Mars in Aries until next January.

Although we are lucky to receive some much-needed assistance from progressive Uranus around June 5, June 14, June 18, and June 30, significant resolutions to our current problems remain elusive. We can’t see a clear path to our goals because the cosmic tides are swirling and whirling and changing. We get into trouble if we pick a current to ride into the future, only to discover that the tide has again shifted, and we’re being carried away from our destination rather than toward it. Paradoxically, the time for patience is over. Waiting for something to happen is a luxury we have forfeited. Instead, we must embrace the “Power of Now.” We must “Be Here Now.” This is a karmic period of time. Our cultural foundations are crumbling before our eyes. The eclipses are a convincing reminder to let go of those beliefs that are no longer valid. However, separating from the past can be painful, especially while Mercury is hovering in nostalgic Cancer.

The curtains have opened, and the Wizard of Oz is being exposed. The emperor’s new clothes are not what we thought. We are trudging through a jungle of data, seeking the truth. But our personal lives are overwhelmed with lions and tigers and bears and eclipses and retrogrades and viruses and racism and climate change and more. Oh my! The old assumptions and labels are no longer working. Nevertheless, we’ll get through this by doing what we humans do best. We come through in times of need. We become superhuman in times of emergency. We are lucky to be living in a time where there is so much potential for change. Of course, expanding our minds is useful. Thinking cosmically gives us greater perspective. But, ultimately, we must act locally. And in the present moment. There is no “us” and “them.” We are all in this together. All hands on deck!
