A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME... Although May offers a smorgasbord of cosmic variety, it is a window into our future. It might seem as if we are losing our footing as steadfast Taurus gives way to whimsical Gemini. Our burdens of responsibility are lightened when clever Mercury enters Gemini on May 3, followed by Venus on May 8 and the Sun on May 20. Meanwhile, larger-than-life Jupiter makes a mad dash to enter imaginative Pisces on May 13, only five months after entering conceptual Aquarius. It’s as if we are trading in our digital communication devices for virtual reality glasses. This is the first time that magnanimous Jupiter and metaphysical Neptune have cohabitated in their mutual home sign of Pisces since 1856. While Jupiter only remains in Pisces for two-and-a-half months before retrograding back into Aquarius for the remainder of 2021, we are treated to visions of the future that begin to manifest when Jupiter finally settles into Pisces next year. Also, Saturn’s motion slows this month until it turns retrograde on May 23, allowing Uranus to close in on the second of three year-defining Saturn-Uranus squares which isn’t exact until mid-June. Nevertheless, the conflict between the old and the new heats back up to epic proportions in May, giving us glimpses of the struggles ahead. Mercury also slows down during the second half of May and turns retrograde on May 29 in its home sign of Gemini. The story of retrograde Mercury will dominate most of June, but we will begin to get clues throughout May.
The practical Taurus New Moon on May 11 is a stable moment the seeds of our intentions have an excellent chance to take root and grow. But we must be cautious about overstepping boundaries because warrior Mars in self-protective Cancer can tempt us to overreact if we believe ourselves, our family, or our loved ones are in danger. Mars square Chiron sets up the potential for emotional wounding, but Mars also forms a sextile with inventive Uranus, indicating there is a way through this vulnerable territory that leads to sudden breakthroughs and deep healing. The noble Sagittarius Full Moon on May 26 is a Lunar Eclipse that requires us to release some aspect of the past. The Moon is square exaggerating Jupiter and prompts us to transform a molehill into a mountain. Inflating the potential of an opportunity will certainly land us in trouble. But creating a sense of self-importance by building beliefs on false historical evidence feeds into the dilemma of our times. This eclipse is conjunct the karmic South Lunar Node, warning us of problems that are exacerbated by moral self-righteousness. Our willingness to relearn the truth and adapt as needed are keys to success.
Overall, May is a fast-paced month. We may struggle to keep up with the changes. But for many, it will be a welcome relief after a year of stagnation. We are wise to remember the Burning Man philosophy that is committed to change that can only occur through participation. Like Burning Man, there are no spectators in May. We are all participants and the cosmos is inviting each and every one of us to engage in creating the future we wish to see.
