Beside being a tv show that is regarded as one of the most popular, the Simpsons are also known for having the ability to predict the future and with high possibilities of getting them right. From facetime to The Coronavirus pandemic and Trump’s presidency, fans have speculated that the writers of the cartoon are actually time travellers since their clairvoyance is scaringly accurate!
With 31 seasons to boot and 700 episodes, the show has harboured over 150,000 jokes and brought joy to families. Here is our list of times the Simpsons have predicted events that turned out to be true. Some of which leave conspiracy theorists in a heap of confusion as they dig deeper to uncover the truth about the show.
Facetime - Season 6, Episode 19
Being one of the main forms of communication, facetime is one of Apple’s most primary features that allows users to video call with their friends and loved ones. In this episode, we see Lisa talk to Marge via phone video chat predating the popular Facetime feature of iPhone’s today by 15 years!
Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Halftime Show - Season 23, Episode 22
Each prediction is only going to become more accurate as we proceed through this list. In 2012, Season 23 Episode 22 features Lady Gaga who performs for the town of Springfield whilst hanging in midair. It so happened that 5 years later she would fly off the Houston NRG Stadium in real life to perform her Super Bowl Halftime Show. Now that’s crazy!
The God Particle - Season 10, Episode 2
The existence of the Higgs Boson also known as the God Particle explains how everything in the universe has mass. Yet, this wasn’t discovered by physicists until 2012. According to Dr Simon Singh, this episode in particular features Homer deciding to be an inventor in “The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace”. He was pictured standing in front of a blackboard with an equation that pictured the mass of the yet-to-be-discovered particle.
"If you work it out, you get the mass of a Higgs boson that’s only a bit larger than the nano-mass of a Higgs boson actually is," he told the Independent. "It’s kind of amazing as Homer makes this prediction 14 years before it was discovered."
Donald Trump becoming the US President - Season 11, Episode 17
Trump’s presidency was predicted by the Simpsons over a decade before he sat in office! Isn’t that insane? Originally aired in March 2000, Lisa becomes the US President and comments on the “budget crunch” from her predecessor, Donald Trump.
Speaking to Milhouse, who has grown up to be Secretary Van Houten, she says: ‘We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump.’ Simpsons creator, Matt Groening told the Guardian that it would be the most absurd cameo if they placed Trump within the White House.
‘We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 – but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire,’ he said.
Faulty Voting Machines - Season 20, Episode 4
In this episode, we see Homer taking part in the 2008 Election and using a voting machine to cast his vote. However, to his dismay, the machine was extremely rigged as he attempted to vote Obama multiple times but the machine had recorded his vote for John Mccain.
Upon countless tries, Homer gives in and confirms his vote for the opposition to his annoyance. Similarly in 2012, video footage was posted on the internet showing a Pennsylvania machine switch from a vote from Obama to his Rebulican opponent, Mitt Romney. The machine was reportedly taken out for commission.
Grease grifters - Season 10, Episode 1
Hey guys, what’s the world’s most slippliest country? Greece! Haha, ok I’m sorry that was extremely bad. Anyways, as you may have guessed.
Conclusion
And there we have it folks, the Simpsons are always looking to surprise us yet again and will possibly continue to surprise us as Season 32 is currently on air. Who knows, maybe they will predict new consoles that could possibly arrive since the release of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.
