Palmistry, or chiromancy, is believed to have originated in China or India, and the earliest written records of hand-reading are in India's Vedic texts, dating from about 3000 BC. It was almost certainly practised throughout the ancient world in such places as Babylonia and Egypt. There are references to it in the Bible, in the Jewish cabbala, the Koran and in Chinese texts dating from at least the 4th century BC.
